Viewing Records in Sesame

When a module is opened, the user is immediately presented with the Search Window which is used to search the records of the default lab (note that Sundial is an exception to this rule). Depending on the module being accessed, users are able to search through the records based on a variety of criteria, including database number, owner of the record or by barcode. The records fitting the search criteria are then returned within the search window. Options are available in the Search menu to either Expand the Tree or Collapse the Tree. Individual nodes can be opened on the tree by clicking on the icon to the left of a user name.

To open a record, double click on it. The record will appear in a new window known as the Board . Once the Board is open, records can also be viewed by highlighting them in the search window and dragging and dropping them into an open (blue) space on the Board. Multiple records (of any type) can be open in the board simultaneously. A variety of tools are available in the Windows menu to organize records being viewed on the Board. Any given record can be brought to the top of the window by selecting it from the list of open records at the bottom of the Windows menu. This menu also contains a function to create a New record.
