The Sample View

The Sample View in Sesame allows the user to record information related to the final product of a protein purification effort. The sample record contains information on the physical characteristics and location of the resulting protein. Sample records can be created and manipulated in the same ways as other types of records. Similar to protein records, a sample entry contains fields for recording the amino acid sequence of the protein as well as the isotopic labeling pattern. As in other record types, clicking on the purple icon to the left automatically calculates key physical characteristics for the peptide sequence. Unique to Sample records, the Components field allows the user to build up a table describing the chemical make up of the sample. To add or delete rows in the table, use the green and red icons (respectively) to the left of the field.

Fields describing the nature of the sample

Also unique to the sample view is the Volume field. Using the green and red icons respectively, users are able to note the addition and subtraction of protein from the sample stock. When the addition or removal of an aliquot from the sample is recorded, Sesame automatically calculates the remaining sample volume. It is important to note that once a line is added to the table, it cannot be removed.
