The Work Group View |
|
| The Work Group View in Sesame allows the user to group multiple ORFs together into a single unit known as a Work Group which is then the
focus of lab activities. This functionality is exceedingly important in high throughput projects where targets are often
worked on in the 96 well format. Users can view existing work groups by searching the lab group records (discussed on the
General Principles help page). Alternatively, new work groups can be created using the
New functionality in the Options
menu of the search window (or in the Window menu of the Board). A blank record will be displayed on the Board,
consisting of two panels, the General Panel and the ORF Panel. The
General Panel is used to capture basic information about the work group. Read/write permissions vary between fields, some fields
are wholly uneditable, some can only be altered
by the Owner (or creator) of the record and some can be modified by all lab group members. |

|
| While the definitions given below can act as a guide to understanding the usage of fields present in a work group record, many of the field
are flexible and can be tailored to the needs of the lab group. The table below can be used as a guide to the use of some of the fields. |
|
| Field | Permission | Definition |
| Database No. | Uneditable | Unique Sesame identifier |
| External ID | All | Reference to a group specific identifier |
| Owner | Uneditable | Creator of the record |
| Lab | Uneditable | Lab Group |
| Status | Owner | Work group status (status options are defined by Lab Master) |
| Type | Owner | Work group category (type options are defined by Lab Master) |
| WorkGroup Name | Owner | Work group identifier |
| User Label | Owner | Alternate work group identifier |
| Lab Protocol | Owner | Lab method applied to the work group |
| Date | Owner | Date of work group creation (but is editable) |
| Plate Type | Owner | Plate format |
| ORFlist Locked | Owner | Denotes the status of the list of ORFs |
| Linked Items | Uneditable | Other records related to current record |
| Room | All | Physical location of products |
| Freezer | All | Physical location of products |
| Info | All | Information not specifically asked for elsewhere |
| Images | All | JPG or GIF images associated with record |
| Files | All | Other files associated with record |
| Protocol | All | Lab Master defined tree to accept experimental results |
|
|
| The ORF panel contains a list of all of the ORFs contained within the work group. It is important to note that a work
group can contain more ORFs than can fit in the chosen plate format. In these instances, the ORFs are split over multiple
plates in the same work group. As in the ORF view, the panel displays
basic information about the ORFs and further details can be viewed by double clicking a given ORF. This panel can also be
customized by reorganizing and resizing columns and by hiding columns using the Show/Hide Columns
function in the Edit menu. Specific ORFs can be located in a work group using the functionalities in the Search menu. |
|
| A few columns are unique to the Work Group ORF panel. The Well Coord column contains the location
of the ORF in the work group. The format of this column is (Work_Group_No.Plate_No.Well_Position).
The Prev. Coord
column displays the link to the previous work group and position that the ORF was a part of. The information represents part
of the electronic paper trail that Sesame maintains. If an ORF was added to the work group from the ORF View (as opposed from an
existing work group), this column will be empty. The Selection Score is the target score of the
ORF at the time that it was incorporated into the current work group. A list of actions added to each ORF in the current work
group can be found at the end of the row. |
