Lab Resources Actions

  • List of different Actions which may be added to Lab Protocols.
  • To different Sesame Items, utilizing the Lab Protocols, Actions can be added to document specific lab activities.
  • Actions can either represent binary outcomes (such as 'PCR sucessful' or 'PCR unsuccessful') or a range of outcomes (such as 'Expression -', 'Expression H', 'Expression M', or 'Expression W').
  • Actions should be not used to record unique values (such as '15mg protein purified'). Instead, the existing fields, or, the Lab Protocols' Protocol Tree should be used to capture such data.

Fields

  • The upper part of the Actions window is the Search Result window. Users are able to search through the records of the Default Lab based on a variety of criteria. The Action records fitting the search criteria are then returned within the Search Result window. The bottom part of the window will show all the data for the selected Action.
    • Title is the Action.
  • The bottom part of the Actions window shows all the data for the Action selected in the upper part of the Actions window.
    • Created By Date is the User Name of the person who created the Action, and the date and time of the event.
    • Modified By Date is the User Name of the person who last modified the Action, and the date and time of the event.
    • Status is the Lab Resources Status for the Action.
    • Type is the Lab Resources Type for the Action.
    • Lab Name is the current Default Lab.
    • Action is the name of the Action.
    • NIH Action is the corresponding System Resources NIH Action.
    • Description is the description of the Action.
    • Milestone sets if the Action is a milestone.
    • Not Choosable sets if the Action is selectable in other Views.
    • Linked Protocols are the Lab Protocols that have this Action added.
      • Database No is the unique database number in a Sesame instance for the Lab Protocol.
      • Name is the Title of the Lab Protocol.
      • Type is the type of the linked item, in this case it is always Lab Protocol.

Save As New Actions

This saves the Action as new in the database.

  1. Make the Actions window active in the Board.
  2. On the Actions menu click Save As New Actions.

Note

  • This will create a new Action record in the database.
  • Every Action must be unique in a Lab.

Save Actions

This saves the Action in the database.

  1. Make the Actions window active in the Board.
  2. On the Actions menu click Save Action.

Note

  • This will update the the current Action record in the database.

Delete Actions

This deletes the Action from the database.

  1. Make the Actions window active in the Board.
  2. On the Actions menu click Delete Actions.
  3. Click Remove Actions in 'Are You Sure?' popup.

Note

  • This will permanently delete the Action from the database.
  • An Action attached to a Sesame item can not be deleted. Otherwise, the data consistency of the records using the Action would be violated.
  • To prevent users to select an Action instead of deleting it, the Not Choosable field should be checked.

Refresh Actions

This reverts the data for the Action to the version in the database.

  1. Make the Actions window active in the Board.
  2. On the Actions menu click Refresh Actions.

Note

  • This will reload the Action from the database.
  • If the content of the View has been modified since the last Save operation, the user will be given an option to proceed and discard the changes, or to cancel the operation.

Clear Actions

This clears the Action data, i.e. the bottom part of the Actions window.

  1. Make the Actions window active in the Board.
  2. On the Actions menu click Clear Actions.

Note

  • The View will be initialized with the default data.
  • If the content of the View has been modified since the last Save operation, the user will be given an option to proceed and discard the changes, or to cancel the operation.

Close Actions

This closes the window.

  1. Make the Actions window active in the Board.
  2. On the Actions menu click Close Actions, or click the X button on the window's Title bar.

  • If the content of the View has been modified since the last Save operation, the user will be given an option to proceed and discard the changes, or to cancel the operation.

Search By Owner

This searches the Action records of the Default Lab and returns the ones that fit the search criteria in the upper part of the Actions window.

  1. Make the Actions window active in the Board.
  2. On the Search menu click By Owner.
  3. Set the search criteria in 'Search by Owner' popup.
    • Owner is the User Name of the person who created the Action. '*' and '?' wild characters are allowed.
    • Action is the name of the Action. '*' and '?' wild characters are allowed.
    • NIH Action is the corresponding System Resources NIH Action.
    • Type is the Lab Resources Type of the Action.
    • Status is the Lab Resources Status of the Action.
    • Choosable marks if the Action is selectable in other Views.
  4. Click Search in the search popup.

Note

  • The AND logical operator is used between the search criteria, i.e. only those Actions will be returned that fit all of them.
  • To exclude a search criteria, set it to an '*'.
  • If an '*' is in every field, all the Actions will be returned.
  • To open a returned Action, click on it in the upper part of the Actions window.

Search By Date

This searches the Action records of the Default Lab and returns the ones that fit the search criteria in the upper part of the Actions window.

  1. Make the Actions window active in the Board.
  2. On the Search menu click By Date.
  3. Set the search criteria in 'Search by Date' popup.
    • Created By is the User Name of the person who created the Action. '*' and '?' wild characters are allowed.
    • Created Start Date is the earliest date the Action was created. To set this field to an '*', click on it, then clear, or, enter an '*' into, any of the Year, Month or Day fields.
    • Created End Date is the latest date the Action was created. To set this field to an '*', click on it, then clear, or, enter an '*' into, any of the Year, Month or Day fields.
    • Modified By is the User Name of the person who last modified the Action. '*' and '?' wild characters are allowed.
    • Modified Start Date is the earliest date of the last modification of the Action. To set this field to an '*', click on it, then clear, or, enter an '*' into, any of the Year, Month or Day fields.
    • Modified End Date is the latest date of the last modification of the Action. To set this field to an '*', click on it, then clear, or, enter an '*' into, any of the Year, Month or Day fields.
    • Type is the Lab Resources Type of the Action.
    • Status is the Lab Resources Status of the Action.
  4. Click Search in the search popup.

Note

  • The generated report for the selected Action will be in a Text Report window in the Board.

Text Report All

This creates a Text report for every Action in the Default Lab and saves it to the disk.

  1. Make the Actions window active in the Board.
  2. On the Report menu click Text Report All.
  3. If you want to save the file in a different folder, locate and open the folder.
  4. In the File Name box, type a name for the file.
  5. Click Save.

Note

  • The file created on the disk will contain the text reports for every Action in the Default Lab.
  • This menu item is enabled for the Lab Master, or, for a Lab Member with a Can Do privilege.
  • The Can Do Resource value is XML_ACTIONDEF.

All

This creates a Table containing a subset of Fields for every Action in the Default Lab, and shows it in the Board.

  1. Make the Actions window active in the Board.
  2. On the Report menu click All.

Note

  • The generated report will be in a Table Report window in the Board.
  • To sort by a column, double click on the particular column's header.
  • The Table can be saved as a comma separated value file.
  • This menu item is enabled for the Lab Master, or, for a Lab Member with a Can Do privilege.
  • The Can Do Resource value is XML_ACTIONDEF.

Record XML Dump

This creates an XML dump for the Action record, and saves it to the disk.

  1. Make the Actions window active in the Board.
  2. In the Report menu click Record XML Dump.
  3. Set the values in 'XML Report' popup.
    • Inline DTD determines if the Document Type Definition (DTD) should be included in the file.
    • Formatting (indents and newlines) determines if the resulting file should be formatted.
    • File Name is the name of the file. To set it, click on the field, then set the values in the 'Save' popup.
      • If you want to save the file in a different folder, locate and open the folder.
      • In the File Name box, type a name for the file.
      • Click Save.
  4. Click Report.

Note

  • The file created on the disk will contain the XML dump for the selected Action.

Bulk XML Dump

This creates an XML report for every Action in the Default Lab and saves it to the disk.

  1. Make the Actions window active in the Board.
  2. In the Report menu click Bulk XML Dump.
  3. Set the values in 'XML Report' popup.
    • Inline DTD determines if the Document Type Definition (DTD) should be included in the file.
    • Formatting (indents and newlines) determines if the resulting file should be formatted.
    • File Name is the name of the file. To set it, click on the field, then set the values in the 'Save' popup.
      • If you want to save the file in a different folder, locate and open the folder.
      • In the File Name box, type a name for the file.
      • Click Save.
  4. Click Report.

  • This menu item is enabled for the Lab Master, or, for a Lab Member with a Can Do privilege.
  • The Can Do Resource values is XML_ACTIONDEF.

General Comments

  • To open the Actions window in the Board, on the Options menu select Lab Resources then click Actions.
  • This Lab Resource is maintained by the Lab Master, or, by a Lab Member with a Can Do privilege.
  • The Can Do Resource value is LAB_RSC_ACTIONDEF.
  • The upper and bottom part of the Actions window can be resized by dragging the divider between the two parts.
